Paediatrics

The clinic is first and foremost and paediatric clinic for children. In The Netherlands children are first seen by a general practitioner and referred to a paediatrician only when the case is too complicated for the general practitioner to treat. In many other countries, paediatricians function as first-line doctors for children

For over 20 years, the clinic has worked closely with general practitioners in the local region and throughout the Netherlands, who regularly refer children to us. Internationally insured patients are able to access the clinic without a referral letter.

The clinic provides outpatient care and does not offer acute or after-hours services. However, we maintain a close working relationship with the paediatricians at HMC Hospitals (Haaglanden Medisch Centrum) in The Hague. When children require urgent hospital care or admission, direct paediatrician-to-paediatrician referrals can be made, helping to ensure timely assessment and treatment.

The clinic has over the years developed certain areas of expertise. Here are a few examples:

ALLERGY CARE
The clinic is able to perform its own allergy testing. For many years, Dr Buskin has attended the bi-annual European allergy conferences (PAAM and EAACI) to stay up to date with the latest developments in allergy care. Common allergies such as dust, pollen, and certain food allergies can be assessed and treated within the clinic. The clinic has also worked closely for many years with the Allergy Centre at Reinier de Graaf Hospital in Delft, where more complex cases can be referred.

SKIN CONDITIONS
A paediatrician treats skin conditions by considering all aspects of a child’s overall health. The clinic has developed a high level of expertise in the treatment of eczema. For more complex dermatological conditions, referrals are made to specialised dermatology clinics in the area or, when necessary, to Sophia Children’s Hospital in Rotterdam.

RESPIRATORY ILLNESSES
Asthma, hay fever, and recurrent chest infections are common conditions treated at the clinic. We are able to carry out our own respiratory function tests and provide ongoing follow-up for children with asthma. Where appropriate, integrative treatment options are combined with physiotherapy and conventional medication. If needed, children can be referred to specialised paediatric pulmonologists at surrounding hospitals.

GASTROINTESTINAL CONDITIONS
The clinic applies a truly integrative approach when treating children with conditions such as chronic abdominal pain, constipation, eating problems or poor weight gain. The clinic can do blood tests and radiological investigations when indicated. When needed, children are referred to gastroenterologists at surrounding hospitals with which we have close working relationships. This helps ensure that no underlying pathology is missed.

CARE OF INFANTS
Due to Dr Buskins’ many years of work as a neonatologist in the United Kingdom, the clinic has a strong interest in treating the various health issues that can occur during a child’s first year of life. Conditions such as colic, feeding difficulties, irritability, suspected allergies, and early-stage eczema are common examples. In these cases, the clinic works closely with specialised paediatric physiotherapists, speech therapists, dietitians and osteopaths.
