New RSV immunisation for babies in the Netherlands

Since autumn 2025, babies born from 1 April 2025 onwards are offered a new RSV immunisation as part of the Dutch National Immunisation Programme (RVP).
This is not a traditional vaccine but a one-time immunisation with RSV antibodies (nirsevimab), which gives immediate protection without the baby having to make its own antibodies.
Protection lasts for about 6 months, covering the period when severe RSV illness is most likely.
